Shipmates;
"THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES"
Just got in tonite from Vegas. What a time Charlotte and I had.
I want to send a special thanks to Jim Brittan, Jim Thynne, and Perry Clifford for all the hard work they put in to make this reunion happen. I also send thanks to all who attended. This reunion will always hold a special place in my heart. I enjoyed it immensely.
After 40 years, none of you have changed. Still the great guys you were back then. Charlotte and I also thank the wives who attended. They help make the reunion.
I am looking forward for the next time we can be together.
Harold
Words at times do not express enough, the joy and warm feelings I felt as shipmates from my past gathered together. We came to pay homage to the brotherhood of Iron Men that served aboard the US wooden warship Phoebe (Ichi Kyu Kyu). We were young, we were tough, and we were sailors. Today we see each other as bald and graying, fat and slow; but through the eyes we saw each other as we did those many years ago. Liberty loving men that played hard and worked as hard as they played.
Our memories are revived and we lived a little through those times of yesteryear. We laughed and we cried and remembered those that died. Our Skipper was there with graying hair and played his part as he did so long ago.
Thanks to Jimmy Brittan for our web site and bringing this reunion together. It was more than just bringing a bunch of old sailors together. It was in the truest sense a family reunion. This reunion was a great idea and we will do it again.
Thank you so much for attending and thank you so much for being my family.
Ken Couch
We did have a great time at the Reunion, like some of you have said, "we knew it was going to be a great time", well it turned out to be more then that. The Reunion was lots of sea stories, reminiscing, reacquainting, remembering, laughing and emotional. The Phoebe crew is truly a family, from the Captain and Officers to the Seaman Apprentice swabbing the deck. The reunion was a dream come true for all of us that attended. Up to a year ago the Phoebe and it's crew had been a distant fading memory, then we slowly started finding each other on the Internet and we became a reunited family. Carol, my better half, finally got to meet my shipmates that I had talked about for the last 37 years, now she thinks of you guys and your wives that attended, as dear friends. Carol couldn't of enjoyed herself more and is eagerly looking forward to our next reunion. Thank You, for everything and all your help putting this reunion together, ................. Jim Brittan
